Beach Volleyball Wins 3rd Straight FCSAA/Region 8 Championship
Palm Beach State College continued its dominance in the sand, defeating State College of Florida, 3-1, to win its third straight FCSAA Beach Volleyball Championship.
Saturday's finale was, arguably, the most captivating championship match in the short three-year history of the event. After pushing the top-seed Panthers before falling 4-1 in Friday evening's winner's bracket final, State College of Florida got another crack at Palm Beach State thanks to a 3-2 win over Lake-Sumter State College in Saturday's first match.
Palm Beach State jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to wins at the No. 2 and No. 4 pairs, and grabbed a one-set lead in both the No. 3 and No. 5 pairs. The Manatees won the No. 1 pair to get right back in the match; shortly afterwards, they forced a third and decisive set at both No. 3 and No. 5.
Palm Beach State raced to a quick 12-3 lead at No. 3 and eventually claimed the set, ending the match via decision.
The Panthers' Drew Colvin was named FCSAA Coach of the Year.
The Panthers await the NJCAA Selection Show on Wednesday April 23rd at 3pm EDT on the NJCAA Network, to determine their quest for a 3rd straight NJCAA National Championship
