Former PBSC Outfielder Cody Wilson Earns the Call to the Big Leagues
Cody Wilson, a Palm Beach State outfielder from 2016-2017, made the initial roster of the Washington Nationals to open the 2021 Major League Baseball season. His contract was formally selected by the Nationals on April 6, 2021.
Wilson, a West Palm Beach native, played at Palm Beach State for two seasons and batted well over .300 during his Panther career. From there, Cody transferred to Florida Atlantic University where he had a monster junior season. Wilson played 63 games, batted .285, and contributed 14 home runs and 41 runs batted in. His junior season allowed to him to be selected by the Washington Nationals in the 13th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft.
Upon being drafted, Wilson reported to Short Season Class-A Auburn in the New York Penn League. He appeared in 48 games for the Doubledays and slashed and impressive .278 with a .355 on-base percentage. In 2019, Wilson moved up to Full Season Class-A Hagerstown where he appeared in 77 games. During 2020, the Minor League Baseball season was cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A meteoric rise to the big leagues, Wilson appeared in just 134 Minor Leagues games before earning a spot out of Spring Training with the Nationals. Wilson will make his debut in the coming days.
**Update** Wilson made his debut with the Nationals on 4/7/2021. He flied out to center field in his lone at-bat.
