Palm Beach State kicked off Day 1 of the 401 Classic with a 64-54 victory over #19 ranked Wake Tech.
The Panthers had a very balanced attack that lead them to victory. All 13 players saw action, with 10 scoring. A back-and-forth first quarter saw the Panthers lead 17-12. Palm Beach turned up the defense and allowed 0 points in the second quarter. This is the 2nd time under Head Coach Maureen Smith that her teams have held an opponent to 0 points in a quarter (the other being February 19, 2020 when they held ASA Miami to 0 points in the 1st quarter).
Wake Tech turned up the energy in the 2nd half but were not able to cut the Panther lead to under 8 points in the final 20 minutes. Andrea Torres paced the Panthers with 13 points, Ashley Thornton had 11 points and dished out 7 assists, Kyandra Poitier had 8 points and 8 rebounds while Keri Cooper had 7 points and 7 blocks. Athaliah Brown and Elizabeth Schnell lead the scoring off the bench as they combined for 17 points, including 3 3-pointers.
